I was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, a Gulf Coast city whose cultural contradictions and unique atmosphere shaped my early sensibilities as a writer and observer. In 2017, I relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico, a landscape of striking desert quiet, majestic mountain vistas, and complex social issues.
My work spans journalism, cultural criticism, fiction, and academic writing, with a focus on cinema, foreign affairs, and popular culture. My byline has appeared in The Brooklyn Rail, Bright Lights Film Journal, and PopMatters, where I explore subjects ranging from philosophical narratives, the relationship between music and visual imagery, to the aesthetics of transgressive film. I want to make readers feel what it’s like to view art, to be inside of it. I also teach college-level courses in film and the humanities, bridging critical theory with accessible discussion to help students think expansively about art and culture beyond AI and social media.
I love photography and exploring nature, which I consider my primary hobbies.
